About Melissa Serrurier
Melissa is a proud Aboriginal woman and a passionate Indigenous educator, researcher, and advocate dedicated to transforming education through culturally responsive practice. With over a decade of experience in both primary and secondary teaching, and higher education, Melissa brings deep knowledge of Indigenous pedagogies, trauma-informed education, and curriculum reform to her work.
Currently undertaking a PhD, Melissa’s research explores how pre-service teachers are equipped to embed Indigenous perspectives into their future classrooms—challenging systems and advocating for authentic integration of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives in mainstream education. She also contributed as a curriculum specialist and learning and teaching leader, working alongside educators and institutions to support truth-telling and equity through curriculum design and incorporation.
Motivated by personal lived experience and cultural learnings, Melissa is committed to creating inclusive learning environments that honour Indigenous perspectives, empower students, and contribute to a more equitable education system.
