Who We Are

We are committed to fostering diversity in publishing and the promotion of critical thinking for a better informed and knowledgeable community.

We are the leading Australian scholarly and education resource for researchers, educators, librarians and learners by supporting the broadest range of publishers and research centres to promote bibliodiversity. We aggregate, organise and host a vast amount of authoritative content and make it accessible through our world class platform.

Our partners are everything.

Informit has always worked in partnerships. Our relationships with libraries, publishers, the academic community and major library consortia are what makes us who we are. We see ourselves as a hub of a knowledge ecosystem. We have long-standing relationships with major peak bodies including the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), and the Australian Policy Observatory (APO). We also partner with more than 700 individual academic and society publishers to enable international exposure to their publications. Additionally, our relationships with key collecting societies, Screenrights and Copyright Agency, enable us to provide comprehensive and unique licensing solutions.

At Informit we are incorporating First Peoples’ perspectives and knowledges within our platform

Indigenous Scholars You Should Knoweast

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led research is changing the national story in meaningful and positive ways, as well as having beneficial impacts within communities. As Australia’s primary research database, hosting the largest collection of academic content in the indigenous space, the Informit platform is searched daily by thousands of students, researchers and members of the public and we are ideally placed to reflect and amplify these advances.

Indigenous Scholars You Should Know is one of several initiatives Informit is implementing to embed First Peoples’ perspectives and knowledges within our platform and amplify exciting developments underway in Indigenous-led research. Watch this space!

Curatorial Statement

Informit has a policy of aggregating content from a wide range of authoritative sources that are reliable, accurate, and trustworthy. We strive to support bibliodiversity by actively seeking to amplify a wide range of voices and perspectives in our selection of content.

To ensure the integrity and quality of the information we provide, we strictly exclude content from predatory publishers, works with unverifiable sources, and content that relies on non-evidence-based opinions. However, we also recognise the importance of cultural perspectives, and may include content that does not strictly meet traditional criteria for authority, but that we believe can contribute to meaningful critical discussions.

Open Access and Infomit

Informit hosts a growing collection of open access content including journals, books, conference papers and reports from a range of publishers, available via our discovery platforms. We are committed to supporting Australian publishers in the transition to open access and supporting a diverse and sustainable research publishing ecosystem in Australia. Our hosting services provide visibility, discoverability and wide dissemination for publishers to share their content. Informit OA materials are freely available to libraries and users around the world.

Thirty years working with libraries to amplify publisher voices.

Informit was founded in the RMIT University Library in 1989 at the onset of electronic publishing. Initially providing access to key sources of scholarly publications on CD-ROMS to Australian libraries, we have since evolved into the core source for authoritative Australian resources in the scholarly and knowledge ecosystem.

We achieved many firsts, such as providing the first database of downloadable full text and the first streaming video database for the education community. As a leading destination for authoritative information across a diverse range of disciplines, we will continue to innovate and develop products and services to fulfil our mission to promote diversity in publishing, intellectual freedom and critical thinking.
