First Peoples’ Lens

As Australia’s leading research database in the humanities and social sciences, hosting the largest digital collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academic publications, we are ideally placed to embed First Peoples’ perspectives and knowledge within our platform and amplify exciting developments underway in Indigenous-led research.

Indigenous Scholars You Should Know

Informit’s video interview series Indigenous Scholars You Should Know casts a spotlight on current Indigenous-led research.

These interviews with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers demonstrate diverse perspectives within Australian First Nations scholarship: highlighting emerging methodologies, reflecting upon experiences within academia, and unpacking some of the ideas informing these important projects.

Kummargii Yulendji Symposium

The inaugural Kummargii Yulendji Symposium was co-convened by Informit and CAVAL in September, 2023, as part of Social Sciences Week, and focused on how we describe, apply, and amplify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander publications.

Informit and CAVAL are proud to co-convene Kummargii Yulendji Symposium on an annual basis, to bring together key representatives from CAVAL’s membership, publishing, research, and information industries for this important meeting of minds. Kummargii Yulendji means ‘Knowledge is Rising’ and was named by Boon wurrung elder N’arwee’t Professor Carolyn Briggs.

First Peoples’ Lens Cultural Fund

In 2023, we proudly introduced the First Peoples’ Lens Cultural Fund, dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander projects in research and innovation.

With a focus on digital knowledge sharing, the 2024 First Peoples Lens Cultural Fund has a total pool of $30,000 to commit to selected projects that meet specific criteria. These include being awarded to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, group or organisation, focusing on publishing, research or library projects, and prioritising digital knowledge dissemination.
